This guide focusses on the availability of college scholarships and financial aid to students without financial need. Scholarships available through merit programs, athletic programs and endowment funds are discussed. Names and addresses are provided for various organizations which offer scholarships to students based on eligibility as determined by ethnic or religious backgrounds, handicaps, or college majors and career choices. Other organizations cited in this guide offer scholarships to members and their families. Various programs through which the armed forces can pay college expenses are also described. Other methods of defraying the costs of a college education are discussed in this guide and include work-study programs, advanced placement, contest awards, and scholarship-matching funds.
