Juba: Classroom Teachers' Guide for Ages 9-13.
Parker, Kathryn Elmes; Topps, Bettye W.
This guide was prepared for use in conjuction with the television series JUBA, designed to link Afro-American children directly with their cultural heritage by establishing folklore awareness and curiosity. The four part guide uses language experience and a combination of childrens' natural fantasies and folklore imagery to help children develop attention, appreciation, and analytic skills to facilitate drawing conclusions about folktales and comparing them to factual reality. Each unit presents behavioral objectives, concepts to be addressed, background information on the folktales, a show synopsis, vocabulary, preparatory activities, listening and looking focal points, and related learning activities. Games, songs, and additional references are included. (MK)
