Achievement as a Function of Family Stability.
Crabbs, Michael A.
Working with the entire junior class of a suburban, middle-class high school, researchers investigated the effects of family stability on student performance, using the Iowa Test of Educational Development as an achievement measure. A statistical test was applied to two groups of students, representing stability or lack of stability in the family environment. Results indicated that students from a stable family environment score significantly higher. Additional statistical applications indicate that the results are not as clearly defined when the students' previous junior high school, which is regarded as providing additional social and educational variables, is known.
