Produced by the Montana Council for Indian Education as part of its Indian Culture Series, the five short articles in the book explain how the Plains Indians got horses in legend and in fact. The stories describe the behavior codes, rules, cultural and social significance, and eventual cessation of horse raids, and the ceremony and tradition surrounding Indian horse races. The book also notes what the Indians looked for in a good horse, and how they used their animals. The book has a reading and interest level rating of medium difficulty. (SB)
