Survey of 1978 Lorain County Community College Graduates.
Tomsic, James M.
In Fall 1978, a survey was conducted of the 612 June 1978 graduates of Lorain County Community College (LCCC) to determine their post-graduation activities. The survey focused on: (1) employment and/or educational status; (2) employed graduates' salaries, hours worked per pay period, relatedness of job to LCCC major, length of employment, job title, and employers; (3) currently enrolled graduates' college of attendance, part-/full-time status, current major and its relatedness to LCCC major, transfer problems, and transfer of credits; and (4) the employment situation of those graduates who were neither enrolled nor employed. A 97.1% response rate was achieved. Major findings indicate that 77.3% of the respondents were employed, 28.1% were enrolled at a college, 15.3% were both employed and enrolled, and 7.9% were neither enrolled nor employed. Of the 167 graduates enrolled at a college, only 22 indicated they had had any transfer problems, though 58 students were unable to transfer all credits. The most popular fields of study were business, education, and engineering. A majority of the employed graduates (87.1%) were working full-time, and 59% held positions directly related to their LCCC major. Of the 47 graduates who were not employed nor enrolled in a college, only 4.4% were still seeking employment. Data tables presenting findings by curriculum area and a sample survey instrument are included. (JP)
