Education for Librarianship in Brazil.
Howard, Pamela F.
The paper examines and describes the development, trends, and current status of education for librarianship in Brazil against the background of the contemporary library scene and the system of higher education in general, focusing on the development of the 30 undergraduate and six post-graduate library programs in existence today. The master's programs are described individually. Included are brief descriptions of the beginnings of library education in Latin America and library development in Brazil. Appendices provide organizational charts of library-related institutions, statistical data on school programs, a listing of courses required in both the undergraduate and graduate programs at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, a directory of schools/departments/faculties of library science and documentation, and a lengthy bibliography.
