Surrogate Parent Training Program: Book of Readings.

The book of readings is intended for use as supplementary information for a program of workshops on training surrogate parents (focusing on the concepts, attitudes, and skills necessary for an individual to successfully represent exceptional children in the educational decision making process). Considered in the five sections are the following topics (with sample materials in parentheses): (1) state law (questions and answers about a new set of rights for parents and students); (2) Public Law 94-142, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (a primer on due process); (3) surrogate parenting (a report on Connecticut's surrogate parent program); (4) exceptional children and exceptional programing (a manual on terminology and classification in mental retardation); and (5) due process procedures (a report on state due process procedures). Bibliographies on due process and materials of interest to parents as well as a list of agencies involved with due process are appended. (PHR)
