Organizational Effectiveness in the Education Practicum Program 1977-1978. Faculty of Education Program Evaluation Report Number 2.
Ratsoy, Eugene W.; And Others
Designed to evaluate organizational effectiveness in the education practicum at the University of Alberta, this study had three purposes. The first was to apply the concepts of organizational effectiveness to the design and administration of relevant evaluation instruments. The second was to conduct a pilot-test of items that might be incorporated in instruments used in a more formal evaluation. The third was to contribute to the base-line data in the ongoing evaluation of the practicum program. Information was collected through questionnaires from individuals directly involved in the planning or administration of the practicum. Researchers concluded that a conceptual framework drawn from the literature on organizational effectiveness is of value in evaluating programs of the kind considered in this report. The study also succeeded in identifying items that might be used in more formal evaluations. Finally, in spite of some limitations, the study contributed base-line data with implications related to goals of the practicum, roles of cooperating teachers, adaptability of schools in coping with change, and the relationships between the faculty of education and other organizations. One important need identified was the need to modify, clarify, and communicate the roles of persons involved in the practicum. Companion publications examine other aspects of the teacher preparation program. (Author/JM)
