Community-Based Learning. Instructional Information for Developing and Implementing Community-Based Learning Programs for Career Development in Secondary Schools.
Rhode Island State Dept. of Education, Providence.
For use by administrators, teachers, counselors, students, and employers involved in a secondary level experience-based career education (EBCE) program, this packet contains six booklets of guidelines, curriculum objectives and activities, and forms. Three of the booklets deal with administrative matters: (1) Planning, Implementing, and Managing Community-Based Learning (an overview of the Rhode Island Model which focuses on a partnership between school and community to help students explore, test, and evaluate possbile career choices); (2) An Implementation Guide for Administrators, Teachers, and Counselors (outlining the in-school and on-site program phases); and (3) A Manual for Enlisting and Developing Community Resource Sites (recruiting and analyzing employer participants). The curriculum guide for teachers and counselors (for the in-school component on career development) lists objectives and activities under the topics of self-awareness, career awareness, career preparation, and decision-making and career planning. An annotated list of resources suitable for a world-of-work course of study is included. The final two booklets are a student guide (program overview and program forms) and an employer's guide with suggestions and checklists. (JT)
