Perspectives and Plans for Graduate Studies, 20 Psychology 1977.
Ontario Council on Graduate Studies, Toronto. Advisory Committee on Academic Planning.
A report and recommendations concerning graduate studies in psychology are presented based on a planning assessment conducted by the Advisory Committee on Academic Planning (ACAP) for the Council of Ontario Universities. The consultants' report and comments on it by the Discipline Group and by individual universities and comments on the ACAP report by the Ontario Council on Graduate Studies and Carleton University are also presented. The procedure and techniques used for the assessment are described in the report. The consultants identified two areas that require further development: doctoral work in industrial/organizational psychology and quantitative psychology. A wide range of opportunities for graduate study in psychology is offered in the province, and the quality is generally high. The consultants note that few academic jobs for doctoral graduates in psychology will be available in the next decade and that enrollment levels should be examined in this context. Also, they suggest greater emphasis on applications of psychology and consideration of the introduction of the PsyD degree. Cooperation among the universities with graduate programs is encouraged. Suggestions for individual universities are also offered. (SW)
