Impact of Title IX on Secondary Physical Education Curricula and Instruction: Toward a Public Policy Analysis.
Schumacher, Sally; Pennington, Jude
This report contains public policy and programmatic outcomes resulting from the impact of Title IX on the physical education curricula and instruction in secondary public schools. Eighty-three percent of Virginia secondary physical education chairpersons completed a questionnaire by June, 1978, the year of compliance. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics. Although compliance was achieved, public policy outcomes of positive staff/student attitudes toward sex-equity in a majority of physical education activities had differential results, and improved student skill development had limited results.
