Planning Charrette I: Master Plan 78.
Anchorage Community College, AK.
The background information used by the participants of a two-day, intensive planning session (or charette) conducted by Anchorage Community College (ACC) is presented. The charette, held in November, 1977, was to develop a statement of philosophy, mission, and overall goals for use in the creation of a five-year master plan. After introductory material outlines the objectives of the session and identifies the role of the charette in the college's master planning process, a series of questions are provided for use by the participants in discussing the college's community orientation; suggested answers are provided for each question; and space is allowed for participants to contribute their own ideas. Existing statements of philosophy, mission, and goals excerpted from ten sources are followed by a discussion of the consequences of adopting ten key goals and the potential conflict that exists between them. The second section of the document provides background information on: (1) the ACC service area, (2) the history of ACC, (3) Anchorage educational institutions, (4) population trends, (5) community characteristics, (6) community needs, and (7) ACC programs, enrollment, and student characteristics. Data tables are provided. (JP)
