Bias Review Procedure. A Procedure for Detecting and Documenting Sex, Race and Other Biases in Educational Materials.
Bebermeyer, J. P.
This manual explains how to use a bias review checklist to detect bias in educational materials. Following an introduction, section 1 provides a general definition of a biasing element and gives three specific examples: slurs, stereotypes, and erroneous group representation. In section 2, a nine-step procedure for material review based on the use of a bias review checklist is outlined. The procedure is designed for use only by reviewers trained in its use. A sample copy of the checklist is included. The final section of the handbook provides information about the Career Education Dissemination Project, the project that developed the procedure.
