Third-Party Objective Evaluation of the Illinois Experience-Based Career Education Project, Third Phase. Final Report.

The Illinois Experience-Based Career Education (EBCE) Project was evaluated to (1) assess the achievement of project objectives, (2) determine factors enabling or precluding their accomplishment, and (3) promote the diffusion of successful aspects. The project sought to implement, evaluate, and diffuse EBCE models and materials developed by the Far West Educational Laboratory and Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory into three diverse school districts. Student outcomes were demonstration of positive growth in affective dimensions and on the career education/guidance needs continuum. Evaluations, site-specific and with varying emphases, were initiated at the Decatur, Joliet, and Sycamore sites. Students and parents responded to these evaluative measures: student follow-up, beginning and end of year questionnaire (students) or pre and post student attitudes and plans, pre and post self observation scale (students and parents), pre and post career guidance needs index survey (students and parents), on-site structured student interviews, and dropout/early leaver structured interviews. The statewide project benefited from the efforts and interest of state and local staff and excellent support and leadership from Research and Development, Department of Adult, Vocational and Technical Education. Data analysis and interpretation indicate satisfactory achievement of objectives. (Tables and evaluation measures are included.) (YLB)
