Curriculum Revision for Sex-Fair Elementary Education: An Analysis of An Intervention Model.

A project conducted at the University of South Florida tested the feasibility of a social influence and public commitment intervention model to adapt extant sex-equity education materials for their incorporation into the elementary education curriculum. Faculty members whose teaching assignments included service to students majoring in elementary education comprised a curriculum change team that located, adapted, and field tested sex-fair materials for their respective courses. An advisory board consisting of local educational and political leaders, as well as persons with statewide educational responsibilities, reviewed the changes proposed by the project staff and suggested additional courses of action that might be taken to solidify the sex-equity gains. Project objectives are delineated, and a discussion of the implementation process and outcomes is presented as a case analysis. An outline of the advisory board structure is included. (Author/LH)
