Of What Value to Kodaly is Research?
Caylor, Florence B.
This paper indicates the need for continuing research in music education and emphasizes the relevance of developmental and educational research to the Kodaly program of music instruction. While music research based on Piaget's and Skinner's work has been done, interest in measures of musical aptitude has declined. Music educators especially need evaluative devices that measure objectively some of the elusive factors that make for talent, learning, and achievement in music. Other areas in which further research is advised, such as the effects of music programs in early childhood education, are indicated. A list of studies of possible interest to music educators who use the Kodaly system has been included at the end of the paper. (Author/RH)
