Analysis of U.S. Government Printing Office Documents Depository Survey Items. Follow-Up Study Report.
Lee, Tae Moon
A follow-up study to a February 1978 report concerning the inadequate annotations on depository survey item cards issued by the Superintendent of Documents of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO), this report presents an analysis of 65 new survey items received by each of six selective depository libraries for the 3-month period, March through May 1978. It is based on Survey numbers 78-37 through 78-57 of Daily Shipping Lists no. 10654 through 19974, dated March 10, 1978 through May 25, 1978. Findings are discussed, an analysis of the annotations is provided, and six recommendations are made. Appended are analyses of the 65 survey items, listing the survey number, shipping list number, shipping list date, item number, SuDoc classification, a yes or no indication of sample received by each of the six depository libraries, the agency name/series and/or serial title, and the annotation and/or remarks. Also attached are GPO internal memoranda of February 17, 1978, and December 12, 1978, regarding minimum annotation requirements for new item surveys, issued by J.D. Livsey, Director of the Library and Statutory Distribution Service. (JD)
