A Handbook for the Student Activity Advisor.
The National Association of Secondary School Principals sponsored a survey of administrators, students, and activity sponsors about their views concerning school activities. One of the significant findings of the survey was the need for activities sponsors to receive additional training and assistance. Although directed primarily at the first-time advisor, this handbook is intended to be helpful to individuals at all levels. Key areas of emphasis that need to be considered by every advisor are identified. A rationale for examining each of these areas is presented as well as practical suggestions for implementation. Areas of emphasis include organization and management; duties of officers, members and committees; selecting projects; communication and public relations; and developing student leadership. Other topics discussed are those intended to implement the organization's activities, such as guides to conducting meetings, problem-solving, group process, evaluation, and working with principals. Many sample forms are included. (Author/MLF)
