This manual is designed to train those helping professionals who carry supervisory responsibility for the work of counselors in drug or other substance abuse programs. The purpose of this training course include identification and desceiption of supervision forms, processes and skills, and development of supervisory competencies useful in the work setting. In a modular presentation format, the materials address the following areas of concern: (1) definitions, dimensions, and the context of supervision; (2) the supervisory process including models, methods, and tools; and (3) techniques for skill-building and application. Additionally, a trainer's manual, workshop guidelines, and worksheets are provided. (Author/HLM)
