This report describes the third-party evaluation of the third year of operation of the experience based career education (EBCE) project administered by Iowa Central Community College. The evaluation is based on examination of project records; interviews with staff, students, and resource persons; questionnaires completed by students, parents, and resource persons; and test data collected on students at the beginning and end of each semester. Among the findings of the evaluation was that growth of EBCE students measured by the Comprehensive Test and Basic Skills Test indicated the gain in mathematics concepts was statistically significant (.1 level) for both one-semester and full-year students. The gain in reading comprehension was also statistically significant for full-year students. Questionnaires completed by students when they finished their EBCE program indicated that 93% had an opportunity to observe and work at least at one job they felt they wanted to pursue. Results of the resource person questionnaire indicated that 92% of the resource persons felt that the program staff provided enough information to help direct student activities at the site. Almost all (94%) indicated that they would recommend participation in the program to another employer or resource person. (LRA)
