Native American Adult Reader. Teacher's Guide.
King, Lovern Root, Ed.
Behavioral objectives and supplemental student activities are featured in this teacher's guide for using the Native American Adult Readers in basic education/GED programs. The guide provides the rationale for developing the readers, which contain a variety of brief articles and essays and are designed to provide meaningful material based on Native American cultures. Each of the three readers reflects one of the Adult Basic Education reading levels--beginning (grade 3 and below), intermediate (grades 4-6), and advanced (grade 7 and above). For each selection in the readers, the guide includes (1) a precise statement of the concept discussed, (2) a list of specific objectives to be met by students in responding to comprehension questions, and (3) a list of supplemental projects for in-depth investigation of topics of special interest to individuals or groups of students. A master chart of student skill areas lists 35 specific cognitive behaviors relating to literal comprehension, interpretation, and critical reading and refers the teacher to lessons in which these skills are taught. An answer key is provided for questions contained in the student readers, and forms are included for student and teacher evaluation of the readers. (JH)
