Fifth Midyear Desegregation Status Report for Public Postsecondary Education Institutions in the State of Maryland.
Maryland State Board for Higher Education, Annapolis.
The status of desegregation in Maryland public postsecondary institutions is assessed in this midyear report for 1979. Chapter One discusses desegregation of the full-time work force of the state's higher education institutions. The data indicate that there exists a low proportion of black faculty in predominantly white schools. A faculty and administrator exchange program is recommended to alleviate this imbalance. In Chapter Two the major activities of the State Board for Higher Education in monitoring and implementing the State Desegregation Plan are discussed. The various programs implemented, monitoring techniques, and studies are examined. State fund expenditures and appropriations for FY 1980 for the implementation of the state's desegregation plan are discussed in Chapter Three. In Chapter Four midyear desegregation reports are provided for each Maryland public postsecondary institution. These reports include information on student composition, financial aid, employment composition, administrative coordination, student services, student retention, and recruitment efforts. Appended are other-race grant allocations; criteria/guidelines for other-race grant programs; minority/other-race internship assignments for 1978-79; summary of minority/other-race intern final reports; coordinators for other-race grant programs; and coordinators for minority/other-race internship programs.
