A questionnaire was sent to the chief academic office of 20 universities to determine a fair and uniform workload for faculty at Central Missouri State University (CMSU). The mean undergraduate teaching load reported by the 18 responding institutions was 11.89 contact hours/week, as compared with 15.6 contact hours/week reported by CMSU faculty. Various methods for arriving at a workload determination are explained. It was concluded that CMSU does not appear to be significantly different from other institutions with respect to teaching load reduction or recognition.
