Preparation of Personnel to Serve the Severely and Profoundly Handicapped.

The inservice training package for teachers of severely and profoundly handicapped children consists of six field tested modules. Each module consists of the following components: objectives (general and specific), instructional methodology, instructor materials (lecture notes and transparencies), participant materials (worksheets and handouts), pre- and posttests with answer keys, and a bibliography. Presented are the following modules (subtopics in parentheses): systematic instruction (assessment techniques, task analysis, individualized education programs); curriculum (motor, self-help, communication, cognition, play, socialization, and vocational areas); behavior management (accelerating behavior, developing new behavior, decreasing undesirable behavior, transfering and maintaining behavior); physical management (positioning, transfers, management of equipment, self care for the cerebral palsied); parent/professional involvement (family training, community resources, legal rights and due process, paraprofessional training); and health management (health care needs, basic life support, dental care, and emergency care).
