This Leader Guide and Parent Workbook has been designed to educate parents in skills for the effective communication of acceptance and the constructive management of power in relation to their children. Included is an overview of the Communication and Parenting Skills Program (CAPS), a discussion of the skills, guidelines for group leadership, home activities, and an outline of the CAPS program. The program involves goal setting, communication in the family, problem solving in the family setting, drug education and an assessment of goal attainment. The program is designed for a class of 10-12 parents meeting once a week for a two-hour session. (PC)
