The Future of Student Services: Parameters, Resources, and Consumer Interests.
Brodzinski, Frederick R.
Trends and developments that will have an impact on the future of student services and higher education are discussed. The importance of the student services sector in the total higher education enterprise is emphasized. It is suggested that planning and sensitivity to development within the student body are crucial if the student services sector is to anticipate its future and control its environment. New approaches, new programs, and new goals are urged in light of financial restrictions and changing student needs. National trends, community developments, and changes within higher education are cited as factors that will affect the student services branch. Included is a discussion of declining enrollments, rise in adult education programs, declines in employment opportunities for college graduates, loss of political support for higher education, growth of the enrollment of women, and the rise of vocationalism. Specific implications of the changes within higher education are presented and their potential results are discussed. (Author/SF)
