These materials are designed for use in a mobile training project for practicing directors of day care centers. Although they are not meant to be comprehensive on any subject, they may be helpful to teachers, students, and consultants in the field of day care administration, to directors of centers, and to Department of Social Services Day Care personnel. Materials are collected in 12 sections. Section A covers goals of day care for children, parents, staff, and community and the roles of the day care director. Schedules of administrative tasks are also discussed. Section B briefly provides information on licensing standards and forms. Section C covers financial planning and management. Several record keeping forms are included. Section D discusses center management. Three model calendars that provide a way of organizing specific tasks are given. Guidelines for purchasing, inventory, preventive maintenance, insurance, writing proposals, participating in federal food programs, and setting fees are also included. Section E includes outlines of topics that should be covered in personnel policies and job descriptions. Section F provides guides for parent involvement and includes an outline for a Parent Handbook. Section G covers ways to evaluate child development and includes forms and coding sheets for evaluating and observing children. Section H provides several materials on children with special needs. Section I covers health, safety and nutrition goals, policies, and procedures in the preschool. Physical facilities and equipment for young children are discussed in Section J. Section K provides multiethnic and other material as aids to programming. The final section consists of a partially annotated bibliography, a resource list of organizations and a list of related periodicals. (Author/RH)
