Lukenbill, Shirley; Hollingsworth, Anne
This handbook provides planning, resources, and activities guidelines to assist libraries in implementing the Texas Summer Reading Club program for 1979 on folklore, the theme of which is "In Search of Texas Treasures." The manual is designed to aid those new at organizing a Summer Reading Club program and to complement activities already scheduled. Guidelines cover the setting of goals and objectives, plans for implementing objectives, and program evaluation. As part of the planning process, the identification and compilation of library and community resources are discussed. Specific activity ideas outlined for the program include an oral history project, arts and crafts programs, ideas for bulletin boards, a program on cowboys, a game on Texas wildlife, and mini-programs. The annotated subject bibliography which is appended covers the areas of children's literature, crafts and games, drama and puppetry, folklore, pirates and buried treasure, planning and publicizing library programs, storytelling, and Texas cultures and history.
