Seventy-seven behavioral objectives and related test items for United States history in grades 10 through 12 are presented. Each sample contains the objective, sample test items, and criteria for judging the adequacy of student responses. Fourteen of the 15 categories are content-oriented, and presented in chronological groups: (1) discovery of the New World; (2) colonial America; (3) American Revolution; (4) forming a new nation; (5) sectional diversity and discord; (6) the Civil War and Reconstruction; (7) key socioeconomic changes; (8) the reform era; (9) expanding interests beyond the nation; (10) prosperity, then depression; (11) emergence of a world power; (12) the Cold War; (13) the Vietnam War; and (14) contemporary reform movements. The last category, historical methods, is concerned with historical analysis in a theoretical framework. (MH)
