This pamphlet contains 28 articles written by high school students based on interviews with community members from 17 ethnic groups. The interviews were conducted by the students as part of a unit on immigration within their social studies course. The interviews illustrate many aspects of ethnic studies which are based on the human rather than the academic dimension. Among the ethnic groups represented are Yugoslavs, Czechoslovakians, Poles, Serbians, French, Sicilians, Austrians, Mexicans, East Germans, Koreans, Scottish, English, Italians, and Albanians. Many of the interviewees were older adults who had immigrated to the United States early in the 20th century. Their stories describe life in their native countries, holiday customs, immigration experiences on Ellis Island, first impressions of life in the United States, their first jobs in the United States, marriages and deaths of family members, and benefits of living in the United States.
