Properties of Matter: A Teacher's Guide to Alternative Versions. Informal Series 11.
Roberts, Douglas A.; Orpwood, Graham W. F.
This teacher's guide is designed to meet several objectives in the area of junior high science. The three versions within this volume are based on the idea that the same science content can be oriented towards the attainment of several different kinds of objectives. Each version is devoted to a different area of emphasis. The blue version emphasizes the "nature of science." Students are encouraged to use inferences in developing scientific knowledge. The red version emphasizes the learner's skill development. Students study the properties of matter by observing and describing their observations. The green version focuses on science and society or way in which science can be useful in solving problems in a technological society. There is only a slight variation in science content from version to version. The text can be used as alternative lessons by the teacher or as a pattern for curriculum development. (Author/SA)
