Foster Parent Training Project: Final Report.
California Community Colleges, Sacramento. Office of the Chancellor.
In 1978, the California State Department of Social Services issued a contract to the Los Rios Community College District to develop training programs for foster parents, prospective foster parents, and agency workers throughout California. Twenty-one California community colleges participated in the Foster Parent Training Program (FPTP) in Spring, 1979. Each college structured its program differently, some utilizing workshops and mini-courses, others offering quarter-long certificate programs. Course topics, covering a wide range, included parent effectiveness training; discipline; communication skills; alcohol, drug, and child abuse; dealing with behavior problems; and the role of community licensing and support agencies. Evaluation reports, compiled at the conclusion of the Spring program, are presented for each participating college. They outline planning and implementation strategies, participant recruitment activities, course descriptions, and final evaluations. Appendices list state advisory committee members, project directors at each site, and course and participant statistics. Also appended are selected samples of course announcements, course outlines, and bibliographic and audiovisual materials, as well as survey and evaluation forms used at some of the colleges. (DR)
