Harvard-Beersheva Collaborative Project in Health Manpower Development. Final Report, July 1, 1974 through June 30, 1977.
Segall, Ascher J.
The final report of the Beersheva collaborative project in health manpower development is presented. The Center for Educational Development in Health (CEDH) (now located at Boston University Medical Center) worked with Ben Gurion University of the Negev to: field test the CEDH model for systematic curriculum design; design, implement, and evaluate a faculty teaching laboratory; and establish and maintain a collaborative relationship. The project was the first opportunity to test the model in a setting that emphasizes the training of primary care physicians and embraces both an underserved region in general and certain disadvantaged groups in particular. Creation of a curriculum development unit and a process for curriculum development is discussed, and the Beersheva Curriculum is described. The faculty teaching laboratory project involved teacher workshops, inservice training, development of units of instruction, use of learning packages in educational methods, and a learning resources center. The system for evaluating student performance and communication of results of the total project to medical educators in the United States are covered. Sample evaluation instruments, instructional materials, and other program materials are appended. An executive summary is included. (SW)
