The Development and Evaluation of a Time Based Network Model of the Industrial Engineering Technology Curriculum at the Southern Technical Institute.
Bannerman, James W.
A practicum was conducted to develop a scientific management tool that would assist students in obtaining a systems view of their college curriculum and to coordinate planning with curriculum requirements. A modification of the critical path method was employed and the result was a time-based network model of the Industrial Engineering Technology curriculum at the Southern Technical Institute. The model pictorially displays the time-phasing and precedence requirements of all courses in the curriculum. Information is provided on the construction and use of the model to permit replication of the method for other structured curricula. A brief literature review and background information on the engineering curriculum are presented. An evaluation of the model indicated student preference for the model over other methods available. Information on course requirements, course descriptions, and an evaluation questionnaire are appended. (SW)
