Improving Education in Florida: A Reassessment. Chapter 3: School Advisory Committees, Florida 1977.
Clasby, Miriam; And Others
This chapter evaluates Florida legislation establishing school advisory committees and is intended to improve understanding of both the potential and the problems of school advisory committees. It begins by examining advisory committees across the nation. It then turns to an analysis of school advisory committees in Florida. The report on local-level implementation of legislation for school advisory committees and annual reports of school progress draws on several different data sources: (1) a brief survey of each of the 67 districts; (2) an indepth survey of 287 local committee chairpersons and principals; (3) field interviews with 88 local participants; (4) content analyses of annual reports of school progress and policy statements and guidelines for school advisory committees from 36 districts. Field data are organized according to types and composition of school advisory committees, their functions, and annual reports of school progress and public communication. Findings and recommendations are summarized at the conclusion of the report. (Author/MLF)
