On the Spot Reading Diagnosis File.
LaPray, Margaret H.
This publication is designed to give classroom teachers and reading specialists at all levels 42 ready-to-use informal diagnostic devices for the early and accurate identification of individual and group reading needs. It is organized into eight sections. The first contains suggestions to aid teachers in using various testing devices. The remaining sections provide tests in the areas of prereading, letters and words, phrases, syntax, paragraphs, and attitudes and interests. The skill areas covered include visual and auditory perception, reversals, receptive vocabulary, applied phonics, comprehension, and rate of reading. Each testing device provides the following information: a description of the device, instructions for its appropriate use, the age level for which it is intended, the time needed to administer it, how to score it, and remediation steps. Appendixes contain reproducible English/Spanish language dominance cards; San Diego quick assessment cards, forms I and II; and San Diego quick oral paragraphs, forms I and II. (FL)
