Nurse Training Act of 1975: Second Report to the Congress, March 15, 1979 (Revised).
Health Resources Administration (DHEW/PHS), Bethesda, MD. Bureau of Health Manpower.
In compliance with section 951 of Public Law 94-63, this second annual report presents and anlayzes information on the supply and distribution of and requirements for nurses. Chapter 1 presents three models on the requirements for nursing personnel in the nation: The Vector Model (impact of health system changes), Pugh Roberts Model (the system dynamics -- national model), and the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education (NICHE) Model (the state model approach to requirements). Supply models and supply projections are discussed in chapter 2. Chapter 3 examines supply and requirements comparisons, including a national overview, registered nurses with advanced training, and nurse practitioners. Chapter 4 discusses factors affecting supply and requirements: new additions to the nursing population, characteristics of the licensed nurse population, employment distribution, and average compensation of nursing personnel. Chapter 5 examines the distribution of supply and requirements in the states. Finally, chapter 6 presents conclusions about aggregate national supply and requirements. The appendix includes a copy of section 951 and report tables. (JH)
