The Higher Education of Minorities--The Summer of Seventy-Eight. A Creative Response to Minority Higher Education.

The challenges of educating minorities on white campuses is discussed, a statistical profile on minority students in higher education is provided, and the financing of higher education for minority students is assessed in this report. Basic assumptions and objectives of the program are outlined. Specific strategies employed by the program to recruit and retain minorities and to increase its effectiveness in improving the academic success of these minority students are described. Some of the strategies described include the organization of academic, financial, social, counseling, and other supportive services to make them more relevant to the needs of individual students. In addition, information concerning courses offered during the program, faculty and staff development and training, student orientation, accomplishment, problems, and results is provided. Conclusions and recommendations are listed. (EB)
