A Guide for Establishing Secondary School Based Job Placement Offices. Exemplary Project.
Lewiston School District, ME.
This guide focuses on the job placement service program at Lewiston High School in Maine. It is designed as a workable model for other schools considering or establishing similar programs. A brief overview of personnel job descriptions and other items that should be addressed in designing policy is provided. Affirmative action guidelines of the Lewiston High School placement office are listed. Procedures for student registration interviews, and placement are outlined. Strategies that may be used in preparing students for jobs, in establishing and maintaining contacts with area businesses and industries, and in finding other job sources are discussed. Evaluation criteria are proposed and sample evaluation forms are provided. Characteristics that have strenghtened the Lewiston program are summarized and used to generate recommendations. Suggestions concerning the funding of a placement program are made. (EB)
