Some Suggestions for the Management of Human Resources: Procedures at Camelot State College.
Kramer, J. Lance
The development of faculty individual activity/performance agreements, a systematic set of procedures through which the goals or objectives of an institution are expressed as specific behaviors of an individual teacher, are discussed. These types of agreements also have been called growth plans or performance contracts. University objectives and faculty behaviors need to be restated using general activity descriptions and each behavioral statement needs to be examined from the perspective of the principle instructional unit of the institution. The statements also need to be considered at the next level of academic administration to identify any statement that is inappropriate to the unit. Each academic sub-unit needs to rank the objectives with respect to their relative importance. Specification of the exact role and function areas in which faculty members are expected to become involved is necessary. An example of a college is presented to illustrate the principles involved. Steps in forming agreements and elements that should be included in the final agreement are outlined. (SW)
