Preparing Teachers of Exceptional Adults: A New Priority for Teacher Training.
Boyan, Craig; Kaplan, Phyllis
The paper describes a cooperative teacher training program operated by California State University at Hayward and the Clausen House service-delivery system (a satellite system of six group homes and an apartment living complex serving adults with mental retardation) in Oakland, California. Sections address rationale for the program, the program model, potential benefits for both adult clients and teacher trainees, evaluation of the program, and future projections. Presented are results of a questionnaire survey showing that teacher educators are beginning to recognize the necessity of training teachers to work with exceptional adults. A sample survey form is included. (SBH)
