Comprehensive Services for Hearing Impaired and Language Delayed Infants and Preschool Children.
Hasenstab, M. Suzanne; And Others
The paper addresses the Comprehensive Services Program which takes an interdisciplinary approach to meeting the needs of preschool hearing impaired and language delayed children. The program is reported to be comprised of two major areas--assessment of the child's development and functioning level and educational intervention. Assessment is explained to focus on three major concerns: audiological evaluation, language and speech analysis, and psychoeducational or developmental evaluation. Educational intervention is noted to be facilitated through four basic alternatives: the parent-infant program, for children under 24 months developmentally; the nursery school, which services children functioning at a 2-3 year level; the pre-kindergarten, in which 4-and 5-year-olds are enrolled; and cooperative services with other agencies, which involve multihandicapped children the program is not equipped to handle.
