Accreditation of Continuing Education in Nursing.

The American Nursing Association accreditation mechanism for continuing education in nursing is outlined. The mechanism encompasses local, state, regional, and national levels and identifies criteria for accrediting other agencies and associations and for the approval of continuing education offerings and programs. It includes programs in nursing offered by universities and colleges, state nurses' associations, national specialty nursing organizations, federal nursing services, and state boards of nursing. The accreditation and approval of continuing education programs to prepare nurses for expanded roles are also covered. The organizational structure, functions, and selection of members of the National Accreditation Board for Continuing Education, regional accrediting committees, national review committee, review teams, and site visit teams are outlined.
