Precision Measurement.
Radius, Marcie; And Others
The manual provides information for precision measurement (counting of movements per minute of a chosen activity) of achievement in special education students. Initial sections give guidelines for the teacher, parent, and student to follow for various methods of charting behavior. It is explained that precision measurement is a way to measure the results of teaching, to evaluate the teaching, and to guide necessary changes in teaching approaches. A paper by B. Tyler titled "Teaching Kids (And You) to Chart" briefly outlines 10 lesson plans on charting. Subsequent sections cover such areas as procedures for written daily timings, precision measurement and curriculum in language arts and mathematics, and suggested proficiency rates or goals. Appendixes, which make up half the document, consist of sample curriculum formats (student worksheets) that have been used in precision measurement projects in subjects which include sentence comprehension, early mathematics, and eye-hand coordination.
