Financial Report of the County Colleges of the State of New Jersey for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 1978.
New Jersey State Dept. of Higher Education, Trenton.
Financial information and an analytic narrative concerning the New Jersey community college system are presented for the following major areas: (1) enrollments and educational cost per full-time equivalent student; (2) sources of current revenue; (3) educational and general expenditures; and (4) fixed assets and capital data. The New Jersey county colleges receive funds primarily from four sources--the state, counties, student tuition and fees, and miscellaneous 'other' income. In 1978, the total revenue from these sources was $134,764,000 presenting an increase of 13.2% over 1977. The total amount of state aid increased by 39%, while the amount of county support increased by 2%. The educational cost per full-time equivalent student increased 7% from FY 1977 to FY 1978. The number of full-time equivalent students appeared to be stabilizing, though the growth in the number of part-time students was significant. Educational and general expenditures rose 10% in 1978. The average percentage expenditure in each of the educational and general categories was as follows: instruction, 46%; general expenses and administration, 24%; student services, 8%; extension and public services, 4%; library, 5%; and plant operation and maintenance, 13%. Data tables summarize the sources and changes in revenue, enrollment, distribution of expenditures, fixed assets, capital authorizations, and complete and comparative fiscal details by college for 1976 through 1978.
