Technology as a Craft of Deceit.
Thompson, Mark E.
This essay briefly presents the evolution of technology and the resulting warnings that many prominent writers have offered in defense of an analytic inquiry into man's interaction with technology. Various ways in which technology has been used to manipulate people are described, e.g., Vietnam, Watergate, the CIA, the Tuskegee Study, Subliminal Seduction, and Nuclear Weapons. The reader is warned that sophisticated technology needs to be carefully controlled, and society should not become too dependent on it. (Author/RAO)
