This summary of the Fifth Annual Desegregation Status Report for the State of Maryland presents data on residency, enrollment, degrees granted, and boards associated with higher education. The data, except for degrees granted, were collected by the state public postsecondary institutions at the beginning of the fall semester 1978. The data on degrees granted covers July 1, 1977 to June 30, 1978. Each section is preceded by a short description of the tables, which are of a summary type. Tables include the following: residence by county of origin by race for Maryland residents; residence status by race for all students; trends in enrollment by race for undergraduates and graduates/first-professionals; enrollment by program by race for undergraduates, graduates, and first-professionals; trends in the distribution of full-time black undergraduate students among the state public higher education institutions; analysis of the 1977-78 drop in black full-time enrollment; degrees granted by program by race for certificates and associates, bachelors, masters, doctorates, and first-professional; degrees granted to black students by race of institution; trends in degrees granted for 1975-78; racial composition of members of boards associated with higher education; and racial composition of employees of boards.
