Education of Visually Handicapped Children in Western Australia.
Western Australian Council for Special Education, Churchlands.
The report focuses on the education of visually handicapped children in Western Australia. Chapter 1 deals with the medical terminology of visual impairment and related educational issues. An historical review is the content of a second chapter, and Chapter 3 provides information on educational programs for visually handicapped children at the preschool, primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels. A final chapter presents recommendations made by the Western Australian Council for Special Education regarding changes in the system of educational services for the visually handicapped. Among suggestions are that a centrally located library and reference center be established and that all teachers working with students using brailled materials receive an adequate braille training course before appointment.
