Bacza, Gerald L.; And Others
The result of a curriculum development project known as Project Open, this curriculum guide offers a course on communication technology to ninth graders who are participating in the Career Exploration in Technology program and have completed the eighth grade course. Nineteen units form the subject matter of the guide: an introduction, visual communication technology, image recording, image projection, image design/layout, image carrier, image transfer, introduction to acoustic communication technology, acoustic communication, telegraph, telephone, magnetic reloading, phonograph, telecommunication technology, radio, television, videotape, computer, and satellite. Each unit gives an overview of its topic and objectives statement, followed by a detailed content outline, suggested time span, relevant resources, and a list of activities supportive to the content. The types of activities vary from class discussions, films, and demonstrations, to student design and construction of communication systems. Unit objectives are frequently divided into cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills. References and resources include films, manuals, dictionaries, textbooks, and names and addresses of individuals and organizations who may be contacted for information.
