Teacher Education Program; University of Colorado.
Sherman, Jack E.; Giblin, Thomas R.
A field based program for preservice education majors is described. In addition to a formal classroom approach, prospective teachers are given complete responsibility for creating, planning, and teaching a two-week summer enrichment program for children in grades three through eight. The program is arranged through the cooperation of the university and a local school district that provides the facility. Students are given the task of developing a curriculum for the children who elect to participate. Teaching teams are organized around the major curriculum trends. Under university faculty supervision, the teacher education students publicize the classes offered, register the children, teach the classes, and act as administrators for the program. Appended to this document are samples of the evaluation scales used by both student teachers and supervisors. (Authors/JD)
